Grading Policy & Grade Breakdown

Students are graded on a ten-point scale:

      100-90          A

       89-80           B

       79-70           C

       69-60           D

     59-below       F

Students are responsible for any work missed when absent. It is the student's responsibility to check Google Classroom or get any assignments possible when out of school.

Late work will be accepted up to a week late from its due date. All late work requires a late slip to be returned with the assignment. You can get a late slip from the classroom, located on the bookshelf next to the door.

Student grades are given based on a point system, meaning the interims sent home will have grade information in a (points earned) / (points possible) format. The grading is broken down as follows:

       60%     Tests, Projects, & Labs

       40%     Classwork (15%) & Quizzes (25%)

Tests, Projects, & Labs (60%)

A pre-assessment and post-assessment is given at the start and end of each unit. We do this so that we can measure student growth and what students have learned.

At the end of each unit, students will also participate in a unit project. These projects may be partner projects, group projects, or independent projects.

Labs will be conducted throughout the entire unit. Labs are kept in the Interactive Lab Journal (ILJ) that students are to bring with them to class DAILY.

Classwork (15%)

Classwork includes various work in student ILJs that are not labs. This may include various "rapid response" type writing assignments or other activities students complete during the course of class to learn new content. Homework is rarely given, though students are to complete what they don't finish in class for homework for the next day when noted. The phrase CAUSES (Complete Any Unfinished Schoolwork and Enthusiastically Study) will be on the board when this is the case.

Quizzes (25%)

Quizzes will take place every Friday. The purpose of these quizzes is to make sure students have an understanding of what material was covered in class that week. The quizzes are short and typically no more than a single page one-sided.

Below is the rubric used to assess student performance in class when an assignment-specific rubric is not assigned:
