The final three weeks of the second quarter have finally arrived -- time flies when you're having fun! :)
I wanted to make everyone aware of some important updates for these next coming weeks. I have had a few students asking about extra credit -- I do not give extra credit, as I believe that students should put their full efforts into their work for full credit the first time they do assignments. In each class today, we discussed what the next three weeks hold as far as grades go:
- earthquake-proof building project (finishing this week) - major assignment
- open note pop quiz (day TBD) - minor assignment
- review quiz online (Google Forms, next week) - major assignment
- volcano assignment/activity - minor & major assignment (TBD)
Students have multiple opportunities to improve their final grades as we round out this second quarter, and I hope to see them do their best work as we wrap up 2015.
On Tuesday, December 15, students will take their science benchmark during classtime. We will go to the computer lab in X-House and take our assessment online. In preparation for this, students have taken a couple review quizzes on Google Forms, so the layout should not be new to them. We will have a review day on Monday, December 14. All notes are posted on Google Classroom and students have full access to material from this quarter as well as last quarter.
Students need to make sure their notes are in their notebooks (as evidenced by their homework assignment tonight!) so that they are not only prepared for their open note pop quiz, but also for their review quiz and benchmark.
I encourage you to sit down with your child and discuss all the wonderful things they've learned so far this year -- it has been such a joy to teach your children science this year!
Please let me know if you have any questions about anything! It is easiest to reach me by email either through my website under the "Contact" tab or directly at astewart@wcpss.net.
